History

Springville First United Methodist is a member church of the United Methodist denomination. The denomination was originally founded in 1784 by John Wesley, a clergyman and missionary of the Church of England. Over the years, numerous religious groups were founded in Great Britain, the United States and in other nations that were also based upon John Wesley’s original teachings of a rational, yet faith-based approach to scripture, a personal relationship with God and prevenient grace. In 1968, two of the largest American Methodist groups, the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church combined to become the United Methodist Church. Springville First United Methodist Church is a part of the Mountain Lakes District of the North Alabama Conference of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.
